Blackout Does Two Jobs in Dubai

The obvious one is darkness — a bedroom that stays dark past sunrise, which matters when the sun is up before 6am for half the year.

The one people underestimate is heat. A west-facing room takes direct sun through the afternoon, and the glass radiates that heat inward long after. Dense blackout fabric intercepts it at the window, which measurably reduces what your air conditioning has to fight. On a room that runs hot every afternoon, that shows up on the DEWA bill.

Say the Limits Plainly

No curtain blocks 100% of light. Some will come around the edges and over the top of the rail — that is a function of how curtains hang, not of the fabric. If you need complete darkness, mount the rail wider and higher than the window so the fabric overlaps the frame on all sides.

Dense fabric is also heavier. Check that your existing rail can take the weight before ordering.

Grey and White Stripe

A pattern rather than a plain block, which is unusual in blackout curtains — most are solid because the fabric is dense. The stripe keeps a heavy curtain from reading as a wall of colour in a small bedroom.

It suits a plain room. Against patterned bedding or wallpaper, choose our plain charcoal velvet instead.

Ready-Made, Not Made-to-Measure

Most blackout specialists in Dubai need an appointment, a measuring visit, manufacturing time and then a fitting — usually a fortnight. These arrive in 3–5 days and you hang them yourself.

The trade-off is one fixed size. If your window is unusual, or you want the wall-to-wall overlap that gives true darkness, a made-to-measure specialist will do it better than we can. We would rather say that than sell you the wrong thing.

Sizing

3m wide × 2m drop. For a gathered look allow roughly twice the window width, so one panel covers a window of about 1.5m. For blackout specifically, err on the side of too much fabric — gaps at the edges are what let light in.
