Velvet Insulates, and That Matters Here

Velvet has a thick pile and real weight behind it. In a UAE apartment that does three things at once: it blocks most daylight, it slows the heat coming through the glass, and it dampens noise from the street or a neighbouring building.

On a west-facing room that bakes every afternoon, heavy curtains do more for the temperature than any amount of adjusting the thermostat.

Deep Charcoal

Dark enough to read as near-black in the evening, soft enough to read as grey in daylight. It hides dust better than any pale fabric — a real consideration in Dubai, where windows sit in dusty air for months at a time.

In a small, already dark room it will feel heavy. There our soft white linen blend keeps the space open.

Living With Velvet

Say the trade-offs plainly. Velvet is heavy — check your curtain rail can take the weight before ordering, since a light tension rod will not. The pile also holds dust, so these need vacuuming with a brush attachment every few weeks rather than a shake.

And velvet marks where it is handled repeatedly. On a curtain you draw twice a day, the leading edge will show it eventually.

Ready-Made, Not Made-to-Measure

Most curtain companies in Dubai need an appointment, a measuring visit, manufacturing time and a fitting. These arrive in 3–5 days and you hang them yourself.

The trade-off is one fixed size. For an unusual window, a made-to-measure specialist will fit it better than we can.

Sizing

3m wide × 2m drop. Allow roughly twice the window width for a gathered look — one panel covers a window of about 1.5m. Velvet needs the full width to hang properly; stretched thin it loses the folds that make it look expensive.
