Thirty-Three Combinations, Narrowed Down
Choose the fabric first, then the colour. It is a far easier decision in that order.
- Bouclé — looped texture, hides small marks, warm to lean against. The practical one for daily use.
- Velvet — deepest colour, shifts tone as light crosses it. Richest, and shows the most.
- Mélange — a flecked weave that reads as a mixed tone rather than a flat colour, which makes it the most forgiving in a room where nothing quite matches.
Then the colour. Ash, White, Sand, Taupe and Black are the neutrals. Terracotta, Mocha and Dusty Rose warm a room. Mint and Navy cool it. Olive sits between the two and is the easiest of the strong colours to live with.
An honest word about this much choice: it usually slows people down rather than helping them. If you are stuck, decide one thing first — should the chair disappear into the room, or stand apart from it? That single answer removes about twenty-five of the thirty-three options.
Low Profile at 90cm Tall
A low seat with a back that stops at 90cm keeps the sightline across a room open, which is what stops a small living space feeling closed in. It also sits comfortably beside a modern sofa, most of which are low.
The usual trade-off applies: lower seats are harder to get out of. Worth considering if older family members will use the room daily.
Placing It
Leave about 30cm of clear space on each side. Beside a sofa, keep the seat heights within about 5cm of each other — mismatched heights are what makes a room look assembled rather than designed.
