Contemporary Charcoal Velvet Armchair with Oversized Arched Backrest

An oversized arched backrest in charcoal velvet — the back rises well above shoulder height and curves forward at the top, so it supports your head as well as your spine.

A Back That Actually Holds Your Head

Most armchair backs stop at shoulder height. That is fine for sitting upright and poor for anything longer — your head has nowhere to go, so you end up with a cushion behind your neck or a stiff neck without one.

An oversized arched back solves that in the frame rather than with accessories. It is the difference between a chair you sit in and a chair you fall asleep in.

Charcoal Velvet, and Why It Suits This Shape

A tall chair is a large block of colour in a room. In a pale shade it dominates; in charcoal it reads as a silhouette instead, which is why big shapes are usually made in dark fabrics.

Velvet adds depth so the dark surface does not look flat, and charcoal hides daily marks better than almost anything else. This is one of the more practical chairs in the range despite looking like one of the more dramatic.

Check the Wall Behind It

A tall back needs clear wall. Against a low window ledge, a radiator or a shelf it will not sit flush. Measure from the floor to the nearest obstruction before ordering.

In a room with a low ceiling a tall chair can feel top-heavy — our low seamless accent chair is the better fit there.

Placing It

Leave about 30cm of clear space on each side. Beside a sofa, this will sit noticeably taller — that is fine as a deliberate contrast, but check you want it.
