Why Glass Over Stone
A solid stone table is visually heavy: you see a slab, not a sculpture. Putting glass on top means the base becomes the object you look at, while the surface stays clear and light. In a smaller room it is the difference between a table that fills the space and one that lets the room breathe.
Tempered glass is worth noting: it is several times stronger than ordinary glass, and if it ever does break it crumbles into blunt pieces rather than shards.
