Brass, Used Sparingly

Metal on upholstered furniture usually goes one of two ways: a thin trim that looks stuck on, or so much of it that the chair becomes a statement about metal. This sits between the two — enough brass to catch light and tie the chair to your lighting, handles or a coffee table base, not enough to date quickly.

Brass warms as it ages, so it will not stay the colour it arrives. Some people want exactly that. If you want a finish that looks identical in five years, a chair without metal detail is the safer choice.

Mocha

A mid brown with warmth in it — the tone that sits most naturally alongside wood floors and brass. Cooler greys fight both.

It also hides marks well without going as dark as graphite, so it suits a room where you want the chair to read soft rather than heavy.

Terylene

Tightly woven, wipes down, and holds its colour in strong light. That makes this an unusual combination: a formal-looking chair in a genuinely hard-wearing fabric.

Placing It

79cm wide, 76cm deep and 71cm tall — low and compact for a club chair, so it suits an apartment where a deeper chair would crowd the room. Leave about 30cm of clear space on each side, and put it where the brass catches light rather than in shadow.
