Most armchairs support your back and leave the sides open. A cocoon shape brings the sides up and in, so you sit inside it rather than on it. The effect is genuinely different: it cuts peripheral vision slightly, muffles sound from the sides, and makes a corner of a room feel like a separate space.

That is why it works in an open-plan apartment. In a living room that flows into the kitchen and dining area, a cocoon chair gives you somewhere that feels enclosed without building a wall.

Two Things to Know Before Ordering

High sides mean less airflow. In an air-conditioned room that is a comfort; in a warm one it is noticeable. Position it away from direct afternoon sun.

It is also a wide chair for one person. Measure before ordering — the enclosing shape needs the width, and there is no compact version of this design.

Ivory, and Keeping It

Placing It

A corner at an angle works best — it faces the room while the shape reads from the side. Leave about 30cm of clear space around it, and add a floor lamp behind and to the side for reading.
