Check the Height Against Your Bed
This is the measurement that decides whether a bedside table works, and 40cm is low.
The top should sit level with your mattress, or within about 5cm of it. Most beds put the mattress top at 50–60cm from the floor — so at 40cm this suits a low-profile or platform bed, not a standard-height frame.
Against a taller bed you will be reaching down for a glass of water in the dark. Our other bedside tables run higher if that is your situation.
A Drawer and an Open Shelf
The drawer hides what you do not want on display — chargers, medication, whatever accumulates. The open shelf below takes books, and reads lighter than a second drawer would.
That combination suits a small bedroom: closed storage where it matters, open space where a solid block would feel heavy.
Matte Charcoal and Brass
Matte dark finishes hide fingerprints and dust better than gloss — worth knowing on a surface touched every night.
The brass handle is a single horizontal line rather than a knob. It works if there is brass or gold elsewhere in the room; against chrome or black hardware it will read as the odd detail.
Placing It
Leave at least 5cm between the bed frame and the table so bedding does not catch. At 50cm wide it suits most bedrooms without crowding the walkway.
