An L-shape uses one corner. A C-shape wraps three sides, which turns the seating into an enclosed social area where everyone faces the middle rather than the television. It suits a room where people gather — family evenings, guests, majlis-style hosting.
It needs room to work. A C-shape in a small living space closes the floor in and leaves no natural walkway. If your living area is under about 4m across, an L-shaped or straight sofa will suit better.
