Why a Vanity Rather Than the Bathroom
Bathroom lighting is the worst light in the house for make-up. It is usually overhead, usually cool white, and it casts shadows straight down the face — which is why make-up that looks right in the bathroom often looks wrong outside it.
A vanity in a bedroom lets you sit, work at eye level, and light your face from the front. It also stops the bathroom being occupied for half an hour every morning.
Where to Put It
Near a window if you can. Daylight is the only light that shows make-up as other people will see it. A vanity facing or beside a window beats any bulb.
If that is not possible, place a lamp either side at face height rather than overhead — two table lamps flanking the mirror, in warm white, will do more than a bright ceiling light.

Allow about 60cm of clear floor in front for the stool to pull out, plus room to sit down. People measure the wall and forget the chair.
