An Open Frame Takes Up No Visual Space
A solid lamp base blocks whatever is behind it. This one is a ring: you see straight through it, so it can sit in front of a mirror, a window or artwork without hiding anything.
That makes it useful on a console table against a wall, where a solid lamp would create a dead spot in the middle of the arrangement.
Gold, Used Once
Metallic finishes work when they repeat and look accidental when they appear once. If there is brass or gold elsewhere in the room — a mirror frame, door handles, a coffee table base — this ties into it and the room reads as considered.

Getting the Height Right
On a console or side table, aim for a total height of about 75–85cm from the floor. Beside a bed, the bottom of the shade wants to be near eye level when you are sitting up.
