Vertical fluting across the back and arms, framed in solid oak. Two finishes: ivory bouclé with oak, or off-white terylene with oak.
Fluting on an Armchair
Fluting is usually a cabinetry detail — it turns up on sideboards, wardrobes and TV units. On upholstery it does something different: the ridges catch light along their length, so a plain-coloured chair has shadow and depth without any pattern or colour.
That means it works in a room where you want texture but not another colour. Which is most rooms.
Two Finishes, Two Different Chairs
Ivory Bouclé & Oak — the looped texture on top of the fluting gives two layers of surface interest. Softer, warmer, more forgiving of marks.
Off White Terylene & Oak — a tightly woven flat fabric, so the fluting reads more sharply. Wipes down easily and holds colour in strong light. The practical choice if the chair sits where afternoon sun reaches it.
Why the Oak Frame Matters
Exposed timber does two things a fully upholstered chair cannot. It lifts the seat off the floor so the room shows through underneath, and it ties the chair to other wood in the room — a dining table, a TV unit, flooring. An all-fabric chair floats; a wood-framed one belongs.
Placing It
Leave about 30cm of clear space on each side. Fluting reads best in raking light — near a window or under a lamp rather than under flat overhead lighting.
