Side Table, Not Coffee Table
The two get confused and they do different jobs. A coffee table is low and central, in front of the seating. A side table is taller and narrower, and it sits at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair — high enough to reach without leaning down, small enough not to block a walkway.
At 50cm tall this lands near armrest height on most seating, which is where a lamp, a book or a cup actually wants to be.
Four Wood Tones
Sand Oak and White Wood keep a room open. Amber Walnut warms it and ties into other wood you already have. Black Wood anchors a pale scheme and hides marks best.
Solid Ash
Solid timber rather than veneer over board. It takes a knock without exposing a different material underneath, and it can be sanded back if it is ever badly marked — which a veneered top cannot.
The honest limit: 40cm across is small. It holds a lamp and a cup, or a stack of books — not both. If you need a proper surface in front of the sofa, this is the wrong piece; browse our coffee tables instead.
Where It Belongs
Beside an armchair, at the end of a sofa, or as a pair framing the seating. In a bedroom it works as a nightstand, though for drawers our bedside tables are the better fit.
