Slim Is the Feature
Most table lamps have a wide base that eats the surface they sit on. A bedside table is usually 40–50cm across and already holding a phone, a glass and a book.
A slim frame takes almost no footprint but still gets the shade up to the right height. On a desk it does the same job — light without giving up working space.
Brass and Warm Light
Brass reflects warm light back rather than absorbing it, so the glow spreads a little further than the same lamp in black or white. It also ages — brass warms in tone over years, which some people want and others do not.
If you have brass or gold anywhere else in the room — handles, a mirror frame, lighting — this ties into it. In a room of chrome and black metal, our white cube lamp sits better.
Getting the Height Right
Beside a bed, the bottom of the shade should land at roughly eye level when you sit up, so the bulb stays hidden. On a desk, the shade should sit above your line of sight — a lamp you look directly into is worse than no lamp.

UAE apartments are lit almost entirely by white ceiling downlights. They light the floor and leave eye level shadowless, which is why a bright room can still feel like an office. Light at table height is what fixes it.
