Everyone furnishing a home in Dubai reaches the same fork in the road: order a complete package, or buy the pieces one at a time.
Most articles on this answer with "it depends." This one does the arithmetic, using real prices, and then says plainly when each option is the wrong one.
The arithmetic, using our own prices
Here is what a one-bedroom apartment needs, priced at the cheapest option in every category we sell:
- Sofa — AED 2,500
- Coffee table — AED 740
- TV unit — AED 1,600
- Dining table — AED 740
- Four dining chairs — AED 1,560
- Bed frame — AED 2,000
- Queen mattress — AED 900
- Two bedside tables — AED 820
- Dresser — AED 3,200
- Mirror — AED 399
- Two table lamps — AED 540
- Two curtain panels — AED 1,100
Total: roughly AED 16,100 for 17 pieces.
Our 1-bedroom package starts at AED 7,599 for 20 pieces.
That is not a close call. And the individual list above is priced at the cheapest option every single time — in practice nobody buys the cheapest of everything, so a real piece-by-piece build usually lands higher.
Why the gap is that large
Three reasons, none of them promotional.
Volume pricing. Twenty pieces ordered together cost less per piece than twenty pieces ordered separately. This is true of every retailer, not just us.
One delivery instead of twelve. Each individual order carries a delivery and an assembly visit. Whether it appears as a line item or is absorbed into the price, somebody pays for it.
No returns risk. A fixed package composition means no design consultation, no back-and-forth, and no pieces ordered and sent back. That cost sits inside the price of individually sold furniture.
The costs that do not appear on the receipt
The price difference is the obvious part. These are the ones people only notice afterwards.
Time. Furnishing an apartment piece by piece typically takes four to eight weekends of browsing, comparing and ordering. A package takes an afternoon.
Delivery days. Twelve separate orders means twelve delivery windows to be home for. In a Dubai tower, each one may need a lift booking and a security notification.
Living half-furnished. Individual pieces arrive across weeks. The dining table comes before the chairs. The bed frame arrives before the mattress. You live in an unfinished apartment for a month.
Things that do not match. Wood tones vary between production runs and between suppliers. A walnut TV unit and a walnut coffee table bought two months apart from two brands rarely look like they belong together — and a near-match looks worse than a deliberate contrast.
When piece by piece is genuinely the better choice
We sell packages. We also sell individual furniture, and there are situations where buying piece by piece is clearly right.
You already own some of it. If you have a sofa you like and a bed that fits, a package means paying for things you will store or sell. Buy the gaps.
You care about a specific piece. If you have wanted a particular sofa for a year, buy that sofa. A package will not scratch that itch and you will resent it.
Your budget arrives in instalments. If you can spend AED 3,000 a month for four months but not AED 12,000 today, buying in stages is the sensible plan. Order in the sequence that matters: bed and mattress and curtains first, then sofa, then dining and storage.
Your apartment is an unusual shape. Very narrow rooms, awkward corners, or a lift that will not take a three-seater. A package assumes a fairly standard layout. If yours is not, choosing individual pieces to fit is the safer route — send us your measurements and we will help.
You are furnishing over years, not weeks. Some people enjoy building a home slowly and choosing each thing properly. That is a legitimate way to live and a package is the wrong product for it.
When a package is clearly right
You are moving in on a date. A package arrives, gets assembled, and the apartment is finished that day. Nothing else does that.
You are furnishing remotely. Relocating to Dubai and want the apartment ready when you land — a package can be ordered from another country and set up before you arrive.
It is a rental or holiday home. You are furnishing for guests you will never meet. Consistency matters more than personal taste, and speed matters more than either.
You do not want to make forty decisions. This is the most underrated reason. Choosing a sofa, then a coffee table that suits it, then a rug that suits both, is genuinely tiring. A package is one decision.
The middle path most people actually take
Buy the package for the bulk of the apartment, then add two or three individual pieces that are personal to you.
A package covers the furniture that simply has to be there — bed, sofa, dining, storage. Then a single armchair you chose yourself, a mirror you liked, a lamp you picked. The apartment is finished quickly, and it still looks like yours.
That is usually the best answer, and it is what we would suggest to a friend.
